Estimator

Job Description:
We are looking for an Estimator that will budget and bid on commercial plumbing, piping and HVAC projects.  The Estimator will coordinate all activities from receipt of plans to the delivery of our final proposal.

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities:

  • Regular attendance and promptness are considered part of each employee’s essential job functions
  • Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors to complete our scope
  • Review specifications and drawings prior to take off
  • Prepare estimates from schematic to fully designed bid documents
  • Fully versed in computerized takeoff programs
  • Complete all estimating forms as required to prepare a complete estimate
  • Review estimate and pertinent information with project lead prior to bid date
  • Assist project lead with all bid day duties
  • Update current material pricing and labor costs in the estimating program on a regular basis
  • Maintain a schematic budget data base
  • Develop trust and respect from subcontractors and vendors to ensure best numbers on bid day

Specific Job Skills:

  • Technical knowledge of mechanical systems, construction methods and how the construction industry operates
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously
  • Detail oriented
  • Experience with reading construction drawings and specifications
  • Detailed understanding of plumbing, piping and sheet metal systems estimating
  • Ability to layout plumbing, piping and or sheet metal systems
  • Willing to work effectively with other employees as a team member
  • Ability to use and interact with spreadsheets such as excel at a moderate level (input, data manipulation, basic programming)
  • Ability to use and interact with word processors at a moderate level (cut & paste, templates, document creation)

Education and/or Experience:

  • 5-10 years of hands-on field experience desired
  • Field plumbing experience desired
  • Healthcare and/or Mission Critical experience desired
  • Experience with applicable codes desired
  • Basic knowledge of construction accounting

Job Conditions:
Hours typically range between forty and fifty hours per week to effectively perform this position. On occasion, you might need to work more than fifty hours in a given week.
